Ana Güezmes García is Chief of the Division for Gender Affairs of the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. 

 

Women’s human rights and gender equality advocate, with 30 years of experience in Latin America and the Caribbean. She has been representative of UN Women in Colombia and Mexico, and sub-regional director of UN Women for Mexico, Central America, Cuba and the Dominican Republic, as well as regional advisor to the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA. Previously, she worked with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), the British Government’s Department for International Development (DFID), the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Federation International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and the Flora Tristán Peruvian Women’s Center.

 

Dr. Güezmes is a health doctor, community health and international management and cooperation specialist. Within her academic experience, her role as co-founder of the Gender Studies Program of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Peru and of the Observatory of the Right to Health in the Economic and Social Research Consortium (CIES) stands out.
