PROBLEM
El Salvador has one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in Latin America. In spite of that, sexual education is scarce, access to contraception is limited and abortion is totally prohibited.
IDEA
We formed an alliance with a team of social innovators that have vast experience in a variety of disciplines, exploring new narratives and formats in journalism, with the objective of helping our audiences to comprehend complex matters, change socio-cultural patterns and to promote sexual education.Shameless Sex (Sexo Sin Vergüenzas) is a transmedia project that combines journalism, technological tools, audiovisuals materials and comedy to reinforce reproductive and sexual rights through access to information. Three reports presented a journalistic investigation about teenage pregnancies in El Salvador. These reports were the base to experiment in the use of new narratives and technologies, such as the creation of interactive maps to localize teenage friendly reproductive and sexual health centers, a sexual educational chatbot, an online sexologist doctor’s office, a series of videos of stand up comedy, and a social media campaign. IDEA initiative granted seed capital to the project and pushed forward the innovators team to establish a new social impact company: ALHARACA, digital media focused on reproductive and sexual rights, now a key resource in Central America.
