Dawn Laguens
Interim Executive Director
Planned Parenthood Global
Estados Unidos
Dawn Laguens is the Interim Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Global and Expert In Residence at IDEO, the world’s foremost human-centered design and innovation firm. In these roles Laguens works globally with partners, leaders and creators to plan, prototype and scale powerful and responsive programs, organizations and technology. She is a co-founder of the recently launched Billion Girls Co-Lab – a girl driven global Research and Development platform to strengthen long-term health and economic outcomes for women and girls.
From 2011-2018 Laguens provided leadership, strategy and inspiration as the Executive Vice President and Chief Brand Officer of Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF). Her leadership cut across the entirety of the organization—directing the expression, extension and protection of a world class women’s health care brand, alongside overseeing the daily advocacy, communications, policy, litigation and political work of the organization. Under her leadership, Planned Parenthood celebrated its Centennial; trained thousands of young diverse leaders; extended digital products and analytics capabilities; enabled innovative communications and content partnerships; and championed a race equity orientation and intersectional approach to the work. During her tenure Planned Parenthood was recognized as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies and Planned Parenthood supporters grew from 3 million to 12 million people. Laguens was tapped to serve as the public face of Planned Parenthood and The Action Fund during the 2018 leadership transition and the 2018 elections, and served as one of 3 members of the Board appointed interim leadership team.
Laguens is a sought after speaker and panelist at top global conferences — including Ad Week, Aspen Spotlight Health, the Fortune Tech Summit, Rock Health, the Global Women’s Forum and Girlboss. Throughout her career Laguens has championed the use of emerging technology, and personally led the production of Across the Line, an award-winning virtual reality experience that was featured at the Sundance Film Festival. She has also appeared frequently in the media on cable and broadcast news shows, and been widely quoted in national and local press on a range of health, rights and equity issues.
Prior to joining Planned Parenthood Laguens, who is also a CLIO award winning writer/director, was a leading strategy and message consultant in the US, focusing on a wide range of critical social issues. In this role she was regularly recognized as one of America’s most creative and impactful leaders and consultants. As the founder and president of LKK Partners, her clients included governors, members of the U.S. Senate and House, EMILY’s List, the National Education Association, the Nature Conservancy, the Natural Resources Defense Council, Basic Rights Oregon, and Freedom to Marry. In addition to working closely with the Planned Parenthood Board of Directors Laguens has herself served on bi-partisan Boards including the American Association of Political Consultants, LPAC and Planned Parenthood Texas Votes.
She is the mother of triplets, a sportswoman, a native of New Orleans, a resident of Austin, and a fan of the printed word (but also of her iPad).
